City University of Macau (CityU Macau) is a private, not-for-profit comprehensive university in Macao. Founded in 1981 as the University of East Asia and renamed in 2011, CityU Macau is committed to developing new humanities, social sciences and interdisciplinary fields underpinned by big data technology. The University currently has nearly 13,000 students across 11 faculties and institutes, offering more than 50 Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral programmes taught in Chinese or English.

Since 2026, CityU Macau has been listed in all four major world university rankings. It is ranked 451–500 in the THE World University Rankings 2027 and 433rd in the QS Asia University Rankings 2026, and holds a QS Stars five-star rating. Social Sciences (General) and Engineering are in the top 1% of the Essential Science Indicators (ESI). Job Description

Successful candidates are expected to contribute significantly to the Faculty’s programme development and will be responsible for teaching, research, and the supervision and coordination of students’ professional practice and dissertations.

Job Requirements
  • A doctoral degree in a relevant field from a recognised institution. Candidates expected to complete their PhD before the start date will be considered for the Assistant Professor position;
  • Ability to teach in English and Chinese;
  • Assistant Professor: strong research potential and quality publications. Associate Professor: a sustained record of high-quality publications, experience in teaching and postgraduate supervision, and a track record of competitive research grants. Professor: international academic standing and leadership, with the ability to lead discipline development;
  • Preference will be given to candidates with full-time university teaching experience or teaching awards, national or provincial research projects, or substantial industry experience;
  • Preference will be given to Macao residents under the same conditions.
Remuneration

The remuneration and appointment rank offered will be competitive and commensurate with the successful applicant’s academic qualifications, current position and professional experience. The current maximum income tax rate in Macao is 12%, but is effectively around 5%–7% after various exemptions.

Research Support

CityU Macau provides one-off research start-up funding, research awards, conference funding, research and teaching assistants, equipment funding, and support for publication and language-editing fees. Faculty members in Macao are eligible to apply for both Macao research funds (e.g. the Science and Technology Development Fund and the Macao Foundation) and Mainland China research funds (e.g. the National Natural Science Foundation of China).
